A "First" to Celebrate?

Last week we hit a milestone by having to start a waiting list for evening counseling services. Since then the list has gone up by several names. I'm glad folks are looking to us for help, but sad that we can't get to all of them quickly. Wish we could add Thursday evenings to our line up of counseling nights, but that would require at least two new volunteer licensed counselors and two new volunteer receptionists. A prayer or two in that regard would be much appreciated!

Celebrating the Very First Comment and Other Things

Much appreciation to Andrea Silverthorne who recently left the very first comment ever on this blog! An ancient proverb says, "Amen to a preacher, 'sic 'em'! to a dog, and a comment on a blog embolden the heart".

In other news, the summer slump I had expected hit immediately after my previous post. It has allowed for some extra time to think through and work through the application process for tax exempt status with the IRS. Hopefully, that rather extensive document will be in the mail within the next week or so.

Lightening List of Pathstones needs: prayer; groups who want a presenter to talk about Pathstones; community members who see the value of the Pathstones Unique Philosophy; and... more prayer!

Look for the blessings,
Phil

Mid-year Report

After a long hiatus from blogging, I hope to be more regular in my updates. In the past 4.5 months we've been going through a lot of transitions, but I'll try to make this brief.

As we thought it would be, at this point we are strongly an outreach to the community. In the past 3 months we have provided close to 170 counseling sessions to 42 clients, most of whom have been community members who are not connected to Alpine Church of Christ.

As we did not think it would be, so far my predicted summer time drop in the number of clients hasn't really happened. For example, I've got 8 sessions scheduled for today and Carrie's slate is full for this evening. By the way, our summer hours are Monday 9am to 1pm and 5pm to 7pm, Tuesday 5pm to 7pm, and Wednesday 9am to 1pm.

Recently we had the parent of a client give Pathstones a $200 contribution. In her words, "I believe in what you're doing here." I believe God will show us enough folks here locally who believe the same way and want to see this ministry grow.

We've got some non-office work volunteer opportunities cooking. More on that later. If you know of anyone looking for volunteer work, invite them to contact us through pathstones.org or calling (903)248-2480. Also, let me know if you or anyone you know would like for one of us to speak to a group about who we are, what we do, and what our dreams are.

This entry is now plenty long enough.
Look for the blessings,
Phil

Where's the Pathstones Banner?

It's down but not out! January 28th, our first day of operation, has come and gone, so the banner is being updated to show the Pathstones phone number (903)248-2480 and website address http://pathstones.org

For our first three weeks of operation, we have been open Monday and Tuesday evenings 5pm to 7pm. Our upcoming fourth week of operation will see the same hours of operation. Lord willing, beginning Monday, February 25th our hours will be:

Mondays - 9am to noon and 1pm to 7pm
Tuesdays - 9am to noon and 1pm to 7pm
Wednesdays - 9am to noon and 1pm to 5pm

Donations of time, expertise, goods, and funds from Alpine members and other Longview community members continue to bless Pathstones. Its comforting to know that God gives us what we need when we need it!

Keep praying!

January 28th Is Coming Soon!

While there is a lot left to be done, we're still planning the opening of Pathstones Counseling Center on Monday, January 28th. At this writing, the hours of the center will probably be Mondays through Wednesdays with Tuesday being an extended day into the evening. Although ministry to the community will probably happen all three days each week, it will be the primary focus on Tuesdays.

We hope you'll join us for a come-and-go reception in the Pathstones offices from 2:00pm to 3:00pm on Sunday afternoon, January 27th. Keep praying!

Giving Thanks!

God's provision continues to abound! I'm thankful for:
1. Jerry Brumbaugh's huge contributions of time and talent to push the remodeling of the PCC office suite to completion.
2. Tesa Wilson's continually asking what she can do to help and being willing to take on anything.
3. Debbie Barnes willingness to step into the volunteer coordinating role knowing we'll be inventing it as we go.
4. Missy Woodson's willingness to take the daytime hours providing counseling at PCC even though there are still so many unanswered questions.
5. The eleven (so far) along with myself who have decided they will each give 3 hours per week on evening teams serving clients of PCC.
6. The anonymous donor who gave an amount that allowed the Alpine elders and finance ministry to decide that PCC's requested funding amount for 2008 could be met.
7. The prayers, encouragement, support, and volunteerism of Alpine and a growing number of other Longview area Christians.

Has It Been a Month? Time for a Volunteer Report!

I can't believe its been a month since my last post! Here's the scoop on what God is doing through volunteers.

The November 17 National Family Volunteer Day brought me more volunteers than I had asked for! I asked for 10 hoping to get the 5 I was really shooting for, but God sent 17 wonderful people! In two hours we got most of the 55 shelves painted and made 150 sack puppets for little PCC visitors to color and play with. We appreciate the Church of the Nazarene youth group led by Carlis Stone, the Peggy Sharp clan, and Jesse Morgan for their assistance!

Jerry Brumbaugh and I spent Monday, Nov. 19th painting in the center, but more electrical problems have kept us from being able to complete the last room. Jerry has been a tremendous help. Since he's probably playing hooky from his honeydo list when he helps PCC, I would also like to express appreciation to Sandra!

Some of the volunteers who will be directly serving clients gathered yesterday for a brunch to talk about how to structure services provided at PCC. Arlis Wood, Debbie Barnes, and I met with some of my coworkers from Hallsville ISD: Carrie Shaw, Faith Fort, Karyn Cooper, and Martha Krider. We still need volunteer counselors, receptionists, and child care workers for day and evening shifts. Give me a call to find out more.

We're still planning to open on January 28th, so keep praying!
